Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has called on Kenyans to avoid participating in street protests during the planned Gen Z commemorations scheduled for June 25. Instead, he urged citizens to pursue political change through constitutional and democratic means, particularly through the ballot box during the next General Election.
Speaking on the state of the nation and the upcoming commemorations, Gachagua emphasized that lasting change can only be achieved through peaceful and lawful processes. He encouraged young people and other citizens who are dissatisfied with the current leadership to prepare themselves to vote and actively participate in shaping the country’s future through elections.
The DCP leader warned against confrontations with security agencies, noting that violent clashes often result in injuries, loss of life, and destruction of property. According to him, protests that turn chaotic ultimately hurt ordinary citizens more than those in positions of power.
Gachagua further expressed concern over the destruction of businesses witnessed during previous demonstrations. He observed that many entrepreneurs and traders suffer heavy losses whenever shops are vandalized or looted, setting back economic progress and affecting livelihoods.
He called on residents across the country to remain vigilant and protect their towns, businesses, and public facilities from acts of violence and criminal infiltration. The former Deputy President stressed that peaceful engagement and civic participation remain the strongest tools for safeguarding democracy and advancing national development.
His remarks come as the country prepares to mark the Gen Z commemorations amid heightened political debate and public interest in governance and accountability.
