Kitui County Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has commissioned the construction of Kwa Nzengu Dam, a major water project implemented through the leadership of Kanziko Ward MCA Hon. Kyalo Kimuli. The dam is a direct response to years of water scarcity affecting residents of Kisuna Village, Kyanganga, and the wider Ekani location.

The project, awarded under Governor Malombe’s county-wide water agenda, aims to harvest seasonal runoff and provide a reliable, year-round water source for domestic use, livestock, and small-scale irrigation. Once complete, Kwa Nzengu Dam will reduce the long distances women and children walk in search of water and boost household food security through kitchen gardens.

Speaking at the site handover, MCA Kimuli thanked the Governor for prioritizing Kanziko Ward and pledged close oversight to ensure timely, quality work. The County Department of Water and Irrigation will supervise construction, with community water committees set to manage the facility after completion.

Residents welcomed the dam as a lifeline that will also support school sanitation and livestock health, key drivers of the local economy.

Kwa Nzengu Dam underscores the County Government’s commitment to climate-resilient infrastructure and equitable development, turning public participation priorities into tangible projects for the people of Kitui.
